Viridian Ephemera
e·phem·er·a (/əˈfem(ə)rə/)
noun: Things that exist or are used or enjoyed for only a short time
A canvas of vibrant hues, nestled in the heart of the Caribbean, unfolds its artistic narrative with a palette that dances between the azure of the ocean and the emerald green of its lush landscapes. The island, brushed with the strokes of nature's hand, is a masterpiece of diversity, where the tropical rainforest meets the powdery white sands in a harmonious duet. The scent of nutmeg, cinnamon, and cloves grew abundantly, weaving aromatic threads into the rhythm of the island’s spirit in the lively beats of calypso and reggae, resonating through the air like a melodic mural.
Here, every breeze whispers tales of nature's artistry, and every sensory encounter is a dance of its unique culture and landscape. This is where the convergence of elements creates a living masterpiece, inviting all to witness the harmonious interplay of colors, scents, people and sounds that define the island’s soulful essence.
Leftover and forgotten in its history of colonization and exploration of the island and her rich history, I am captivated by the island's layered narratives, blending indigenous heritage with colonial legacies and the resilience of its people. Through my work, I seek to unearth the multifaceted layers of her identity, celebrating its vibrant cultural tapestry while acknowledging the shadows cast by periods of colonization by the British and French and conflict. Inspired by the lush landscapes, vibrant colors, and rhythmic cadences of her life, my art endeavors to honor the strength and spirit of its inhabitants, weaving together a visual narrative that pays homage to the past while envisioning a future of unity and empowerment. Her history serves as both a muse and a mirror, reflecting the complexities of human experience and the enduring legacy of resilience and hope.
